As 2021 is flying by, the month of March has finally come to an end, and our company charity initiative has been completed! Our aim was to reach 3 km a day, either walking, running, or cycling (no driving, unfortunately,) with the ultimate goal to reach 5000km as a whole company.
The reason behind this was to raise money for a very special charity: Young Minds is a mental health charity that supports young adults and children who are suffering with mental ill health, and their purpose is to make sure every young person gets the mental health support they need, when they need it, no matter what.
With every 1 in 4 people experiencing a mental health problem of some kind each year in England , we found it imperative to choose a charity that supports everyone, and to raise money for a significant issue that can affect every single one of us. It is also Mental Health Awareness Day today, so continue to check on family and friends to see if they’re okay, especially now more than ever, with the difficulties and tribulations people are experiencing because of the pandemic. And please remember, there is always someone out there to help if you need it!
With the competition, we tracked our movements in a data spreadsheet, and every day found ourselves competing with our fellow employees. For each of us, our aim was collectively reach 3km a day, with many of us quadrupling that amount! One of the biggest accomplishments was with our very own Matt Gillen, Concept Resourcing’s Managing Director, who smashed it out the park with his records!
Matt was able to reach 51km, 79km and an astonishing 112.62km on three separate occasions, a feat that none of us could match. His contribution to the overall results was a huge 620km, so well-done Matt!
Keeping Matt on his toes was our Senior Managing Executive Laura Case, who also impressed with an overall contribution of 491km. Her competitive streak continued to push her the whole way, determined to try and beat Matt’s advancements every morning, but he reigned undefeated. Along with all other members of staff who got involved, thankyou!
The efforts put in by others in the company is to be praised. Rob Taylor devised the initiative, and Chloe Swain and Laura Case did all of the behind-the-scenes magic, including setting up the JustGiving page, creating artwork for our social medias surrounding the charity challenge, and advertising and sending out newsletters to both external and internal clients.
Through our JustGiving page we were able to raise £631.00, so we would like to say a huge thankyou to everyone who donated, both employees and family and friends - we are giving you all virtual hugs (socially distanced of course.) The funds will aid all the powerful work YoungMinds is doing, and your donations will be greatly appreciated. The JustGiving page is still open, so there’s still time to donate if you want to but haven’t already.
And now, what you’ve all been waiting for – the final score of our challenge *drum roll please*…
We were able to achieve our goal of reaching 5,000km, and then some! So, until the next charity event... we will be able to smash anything.
